Brie Blossoms

This post was originally published on my old blog about 2 years ago. But since then I have had so many requests for the recipe that I am giving this a quick re-write. This appetizer is very simple, very elegant, and will impress any party you attend. The idea spurred out of an old memory of Thanksgiving. My cousin had served an appetizer with brie and cranberries in some sort of pastry shell that I absolutely inhaled, leaving my appetite for the main meal extremely small. When I was struck with the inspiration to try this dish again, I looked for complementary flavors and textures. With the base of brie, I went straight to savory and added some chopped green onions. Then to add a bit of texture, I added some chopped pistachios (since then, I have used walnuts, hazelnuts, and pecans). Finally, I love a bit of sweetness when eating brie and other fragrant cheeses, so I added just touch of some Dalmatia Orange Fig Spread. This jam is an incredible compliment to any cheese, you should always have some in your fridge! Then into a 400* oven for about 10-15 minutes, or enough to cook all of the spring roll wrappers to a golden brown crispness.

Since this original recipe, I have mixed up some combinations of ingredients. The latest one was killer; Brie, bacon, walnuts, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and green onions. The best thing about this dish is it allows you a ton of creativity, and each blossom comes out looking gorgeous. So, take this and be the hit of your next party!
